I start with colour, two or three speaking to each other. My interest in colour stems from influences such as Peter Lanyon, Mark Rothko and Josef Albers. I am interested in how colour can move your eye through a painting, creating a conversation. I find it fascinated how even the placement of colour next to another can change the way its viewed. Colour is intuitive, emotive and deeply resonates within our core memory of place.

I create a form of mapping, a visual diary when exploring how particular colours remind us of places. My paintings are formed from colour journeys, searching a place, sketching and recording and bringing those colours, shapes and forms back into the studio.
